India: Before Colonialism

For too many years we as a country have suffered from a poverty of aspiration.
- Anand Mahindra.

India got independence from the British Empire in 1947 AD. But the first war of independence was fought in 1857 AD where the British EIC lost the control of the Indian affairs and the Magna Carta was issued.
By early 1800s since the fall of the Maratha Confederacy after prolonged warfare, the country plunged in an abyss of anarchy, economic erosion, epidemics and utter poverty.

So, what did the Indians aspire back in the 1800s?
The answer is freedom. There was nothing else to choose. Freedom was achieved in 1947 thru means of revolutions, mutinies and civil disobedience. It can never be said that Indians did not have aspirations. They routed the British-who had no intention of leaving the strategic Indian peninsula.
But to restore their influence in the subcontinent the British partitioned India before their exit forming the states of Pakistan, Bangladesh & Burma [The New Great Game].

Mr. Mahindra might be referring to an India under the Mughal dominance of Aurangzeb where the Turks and Central Asian offspring Khanates of the Genghis mutated the basic Indian social fabric and no hope of restoration was left. Nevertheless, The Marathas under Ch. Shivaji and subsequent Peshwas restored order by 1760 AD from Pune and the Deccan.

What do Indians aspire today?
We aspire to be the second most powerful economy in Asia- and third in the World. We also aspire to be the most secular land in the hemisphere that is a heaven for human rights. As a civilization having a history of more than 5000 years [excavations at Rakhighari & Sinauli in Haryana & Lothal in Gujarat indicate the expertise Indians had in copper manufacturing and naval architecture], we aspire to be a beacon to the World in sharing the experience about how great civilizations of Asia  rose and fell.

Akhand Bharat. Undivided India.

India has tall aspirations.
We need people with determined attitudes to bring change in the subcontinent.
The conceptualization of the SAARC, with a common currency framework for ease of commerce and a mammoth network of railways, highways & waterways to enable logistics & people movements within the subcontinent is being developed and deployed. A planned expressway from New Delhi to Bangkok is a testimony to this vision. I wont be surprised to see a Vande Bharat express running between Khyber Pakhtunwa and Dacca. And from Karachi to Chittagong.

Today there is no poverty of aspirations.
We must ensure there shouldn't be any slack in determination and integrity towards this goal.
This is the vision of Akhand Bharat ranging from an era of 1818 AD to 2023, present.
An integration of Greater India.
