Southern Maharashtra, India Panhala Fort, Kolhapur Fort Panhala, also known as Panhalgad, is located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. It was built by King Bhoja in the 11th century. King Shivaji captured the fort in the 17th century and made significant additions to its fortifications. The forest trail in the footage is the actual path that took Chattrapati Shivaji to safety of Vishalgadh by breaching the siege of Siddi Jauhar, a General of the Bijapur Army in 1660 AD. The escape is still considered as an impossible feat and proved to be a turning point for the Maratha fortunes in Mughal dominated lower western India. The fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and provides a glimpse into the history of the Maratha dynasty. Visitors can explore the fort's ramparts, gates, water cisterns, and remnants of historical structures. The fort is also known for its association with the Maratha queen Tarabai.
